Please note: If you are not carrying out international transport these retrofit dates do not apply, however if you transit through Northern Ireland they will apply.
As recently updated the EU Commission through the Department of Transport and the RSA are implementing new legislation in relation to Smart2 Tachographs.
G2V2 tachograph is required in all vehicles registered on or after the 21/08/2023.
Vehicles engaged in international transport (including Northern Ireland) that are currently equipped with an Analogue or Digital tachograph system must be retrofitted with a G2V2 tachograph no later than the 31/12/2024.
- Analog Tachograph up to 30th April 2006
- Digital Tachograph (G1)01/05/2006 – 14/06/2019
Vehicle engaged in international transport (including Northern Ireland) that are currently equipped with an G2V1 tachograph system must be retrofitted with a G2V2 tachograph no later than the 18/08/2025.
- Smart 1 Tachograph (G2V1)15/06/2019 – 20/08/2023
Vehicle exceeding 2.5t engaged in international transport (including Northern Ireland) are required to be fitted with a G2V2 tachograph no later than the 01/07/2026.
If a vehicle is stopped in a member state other than the one of which it is registered after these dates with the incorrect tachograph operators will face fines and or prosecution.
If you are stopped in the UK after these dates with the incorrect tachograph operators will face fines and their vehicle will be and taken to the nearest test centre for retrofit.
The RSA, Department of Transport & National Standards Authority of Ireland together will be issuing more details to operators and CVRT workshops in June or July this year regarding the deadline dates.
