ENNIS
Ennis has been awarded ‘Coach Friendly Destination’ status by the Coach Tourism and Transport Council of Ireland (CTTC), a representative body for Ireland’s coach touring companies and private bus operators.
Ennis is one of only three towns in Ireland to have successfully achieved this accreditation, following a submission by a joint working group comprising Clare County Council and Ennis Chamber.
The establishment of Friar’s Walk Coach Park, located close to glór, developed by the former Ennis Town Council, was a critical factor in Ennis achieving this status, but so too is the commitment made by Ennis to understand and meet the requirements not only of coaches, but also drivers and passengers arriving into the town.
The free coach park features 14 spaces, on-site facilities and a drop-off / pick-up bus shelter located just 100m from the town centre. The site is also equipped with a water supply for coach washing, waste water disposal facilities and 24-hour CCTV monitoring.
“Coach Tourism remains very important for the local tourism and hospitality sector and therefore, this accreditation will greatly assist ongoing efforts to encourage additional operators to the town.”
Margaret O’Brien, Festival and Event Coordinator for Ennis added, “We have always had a warm welcome for coach drivers and their passengers in Ennis. The facilities in our coach park are second to none. We have CCTV security cameras in place, so drivers can rest assured that their vehicles are safe and coach-proud drivers can take the opportunity to avail of the dedicated vehicle wash facilities.
As a town, Ennis still retains its old-world charm, with lots of independent retailers, gift shops, a myriad of cafes and quality eateries”
